The basic concept for this operation was first conceived by Robby New some time back. Coming up with the right boat, working out the details and finding the right location took a tad longer than first anticipated - about 50 years longer - give or take a year or two. The first item was the killer and turned out to present a somewahat more time consuming task than was first thought.
Coming up with the configuration for the right boat and eventually building it, while time consuming, took up a very small fraction of the past fifty years. What consumed the lions share off the fifty year time span was continuing futile attempts at raising the capital required - to make "Grand Illusion" a reality. It turns out that convincing people of the obvious is not an easy task. For those with an interest in ancient history, Some idea of the lengths to which this effort went to can be found on our older web sites.
One positive aspect of this (to put it kindly) "rather longer than usual" development phase has been that it has allowed plenty of time for tweaking the configuration of Grand Illusion, fine tuning other details of the operation and putting in endless hours, days, months and years of research into finding the right location.
Most importantly perhaps, this time span provided the opportunity to spend a lot of time in various "Pristine Tropical Island Paradises" - developing a very clear picture (down to the last detail) of just what was required (and eqully important not required) in order to provide individuals with the "experience of a lifetime". The result (we hope our guests will agree) while, perhaps, not quite worth the wait (what could be worth a 50 year wait?) will go a long way towards exemplifying such old saws as "Rome wasn't built in a day"
Angel Ohep, the operation's other active partner, joined us in 2007 and provided a much needed input of enthusiasm and energy (not to mention the financial input - both from himself and his brother) to get the operation over the final few hurdles.
