Those who (for whatever reason) may choose to spend their entire day with us - simply laying back - aboard "Grand Illusion" - observing the splendid tapestry of natural wonders drift by, will, we are confident, find the price of the "ticket to ride" well worth it. The reasons for this are twofold.
Firstly, Grand illusion is a very special, innovative boat and one of her prime design mandates is precisely to make the experience of simply being aboard a very positive one. Her sheer length, coupled with her very fine hulls and extremely sharp bows, means that Grand Illusion slices effortlessly through even fairly angry seas - without presenting the slightest suggestion of violent confrontation. The seas respond in kind - by granting us smooth passage - enabling our Magic Carpet Catamaran to provide a veritable "Magic Carpet" ride.
Many large sailing catamarans also do very well in this respect - providing the wind cooperates. Grand illusion, on the other hand, has sufficient mechanical power to maintain this "Magic Carpet Ride" with little - or even no wind at all. Because of her super efficient, outlandishly skinny hulls, the power requirement to accomplish this are extraordinarily low and this fact, coupled with great attention to noise and vibration suppression, means that the "Magic Carpet" illusion is maintained - throughout a wide range of wind and sea conditions.
On deck, the carefully planned layout is aimed at one purpose and one purpose alone - namely, to provide the perfect platform for a small group of persons to spend the day cruising and playing on - in a pristine tropical island paradise. Some ingredients that go in to the accomplishment of this goal are:
> Acres of wide open, shaded seating and lounging space - with 360 degree views
> Ample unshaded areas to satisfy the sun worshippers aboard.
> Dozens of "sweet spots" which "just happen" to be perfectly fitted to ones lounging frame and which "just happen" to provide a perfect view of the most interesting vistas
> A salt water "cool tub" should you feel a bit overheated from your exertions.
> Plenty of space to avoid being involuntarily involved in "more action oriented" pursuits - which other guests may be silly enough to be engaged in.
No doubt, many boats (such as large ferries or cruise ships) provide a very comfortable ride and many boats (such as jet skis and wind surfers) provide a very exciting ride. The trick is to provide a very comfortable - and exciting ride. "Grand Illusion" as befitting her name, pulls off this trick - in spades. creating, what we think, many will agree is simply - "A wonderful way to travel"
Perhaps the best summary of the underlying design philosophy behind Grand Illusion is that, unlike most boats (for which the primary design mandate is clearly to create -
"A terrific boat - to look at") Grand Illusion is designed to be "A terrific boat - to look from" This approach clearly makes sense - seeing as, in the locations where she is headed, there are hardly any other people around to look at her.
Secondly, our cruising area "just happens" to be very conducive to our efforts to provide a "Magic Carpet Ride" - by providing an extraordinarily diverse and magical environment.. One aspect of our cruising area, which contributes significantly to the spectacle is the prevailing glassy smooth sea conditions - particularly in the mornings. This, combined with the clear water means that the unfolding underwater tapestry is often clearly visible from aboard Grand Illusion - particularly from the vantage point of the top deck.
