The Top Pick of "Panama tours" and "Adventure tours" - period!
Panama Adventure Tours - Fishing.

Fishing on our tours is, perhaps, the most popular activity, The type of fishing which we offer, provides a great deal of enjoyment to all our quests - of all ages and all levels  of fishing experience - including zero. On this page, we are  targeting our information towards the latter - so more experienced fishing afficianados will need to bare with us. The sheer size of Grand Illusion - plus the great attention to detail in the layout, allows for 20 anglers or more to have plenty of fishing room for the pursuit of their quarry .

We inevitably do some conventional trolling while underway - more often than than not, of the "high speed" variety - as we hurry to the spot where we get into the "real fishing". This is not to say that, while trolling,  we don't hook up with our fair share of speedy, open ocean wanderers (most often wahoo with occasional tunea dorado and even bill fish. Wahoo are considered by many to be the fastest fish on the ocean. With Grand Illusion doing 15 knots, when a 100 lb wahoo grabs the lure and takes off at 20 knots in the opposite direction, the high pitched screaming of the fishing reel will definitely get the adrenalin flowing.

It takes top of the line equipment to stand up to this and we have a large inventory of such equipment - for all the many different fishing systems we utilize. Our Inventorty includes

20 Shimano 80 lb stand up fishing combos
20 Shimano 30 lb. spin fishing combos.
20 Penn 15 lb spin fishing combos
10 Kids spin fishing combos

Eor the most part, our fishing is done with engines shut down - usually drift fishing (as illustrated in the above image) but occasionaly anchored. We focus our efforts on particular (often relatively small) very productive fishing areas - quite often underwater "sea mounts". We use a variety of different tackle and baits  (according to the myriad of different habitats and inhabitant we are encountering at the moment..

Have no fear however, with the guidance of our helpful crew, even the complete fishing novice will soon get the hang of hooking and battling a wide range of species in a wide range of sizes - up to and including 200 lb plus tuna, speedy powerful dorado and wahoo - and even the occasional sailfish or marlin.

This is "hands on fishing" and there will also be a large number of smaller fish to keep everyone busy and engaged. There is very little chance of our guests (as is sometimes the case on conventional, trolling focussed, fishing tours) nodding off from sheer boredom. No doubt, the constant dull roar of a pair of large diesel engines on these types of tours contributes to this result.

On the countrary, with our tours, peace and quit reigns - only broken by the occasional call of a seagull - or the splash of jumping fish or the, rather more frequent, excited cries from our guests as yet another fish takes the bait. And then --- everyone freezes as a mighty tuna takes a bait and heads off straight down directly for Australia - at what seems like a 100 miles per hour - as the fishing reel screams like a banshee in protest.

Unlike on conventiol trolling focussed fishing tours, in our case this is not taken as a signal to implement total  chaos - with mighty diesels roaring - driving the boat astern with waves splashing up over the transom into the cockpit as everyone struggles to reel in the other other lines amidst much running around and shouting.

Again, on the contrary, in our case, this acts as a signal for the lucky (or unlucky - depending on the duration of the battle) angler to get another cup of coffee or have a cigarette as he or she waits patiently for the tuna to finally tire out a bit and for the screaming reel to go silent. Only then, will he or she (having by now outfitted himself with the proper fishing harness and fishing belt) start the back breaking (but fun) jtask of attempting to reel in all the line the tuna has previously taken out.

Meanwhile, once plenty of elbow room has been cleared for the two contendors in the forthcoming battle, the other anglers can get back to their fishing efforts - albeit, as is customary, from time to time, contributing a few words of encouragement - or criticism - or derision - adressed to the human contendor in "what has now become "the main event".

For those who would rather just watch all the action, there is ample space for comfortable spectating - a safe distance from the action. It is difficult to describe how pleasant and how much fun this type of fishing is - for everyone of all ages and levels of experience. One has to see it to believe it - or at least see a video.
